Hosting Gucci Equilibrium's Documentary - Now I Can

Happy National Handloom Day 🧵

When a global luxury house spotlights a sari, it doesn’t just make a statement — it invites reinvention. As the event emcee for the documentary launch with I was a Sari, I witnessed Gucci Equilibrium translate sustainability into something tactile. The energy in the room was quiet but electric — like a garment that knows it’s been re-sewn with purpose.

As a corporate emcee, you often get front-row seats to manufactured applause. This wasn’t that. Ms. Smitha Jyotsna’s introduction of the Queendom framework brought something rare to the screen: dignity in design. The screening paused not just timelines but postures — someone in the third row uncrossed their arms as the credits rolled. That's what authentic purpose does: it opens.

Not every emcee in India is handed a story that’s already alive in fabric. But when Stefano Funari spoke about economic dignity as a design input, the audience didn’t just nod — they leaned in. That’s the difference between attention and respect. Circular fashion may be a trend for some, but here, it was a commitment sewn into legacy.

There was a moment during the Q&A when someone asked if the sari I wore was part of the collection. I smiled — because I wasn’t just a female anchor for event duties. I was a wearer of the work. A walking archive of its message. That garment had lived a previous life, and this stage gave it voice.

I’ve stood on countless stages. But this felt different. When Ashwin Prajapati and the URBANBLINK team faded the screen to a woman mid-laugh, I knew: no direction could’ve improved that moment. Sometimes, the best event anchor in India knows when to move back and let the fabric speak.

Thank YouTo Mr. Stefano Funari, founder, I was a Sari;Ms. Smitha Jyotsna, Director – Marketing & International Ecommerce, I was a Sari | Certified B Corp;Mr. Ashwin Prajapati & team URBANBLINK, for the visual clarity that honored the work.

With gratitude, from Gucci Equilibrium — on this National Handloom Day.
